Where to Play Pickleball in Austin, Texas (2026)
Where to Play Pickleball in Austin, Texas (2026)
Last reviewed 26 May 2026 against every venue's primary source. We list 44 open pickleball venues inside Austin city limits, totalling 154+ courts at venues that publish a count.
Austin runs the entire pickleball spectrum: a deep bench of 32 free city park and recreation-center locations, 5 dedicated membership clubs, and 7 paid drop-in venues — most of them combining bars or food halls with reservable outdoor courts. There are 13 indoor venues in town (climate-controlled play that runs through the August heat) and 32 free venues (lit and unlit municipal courts you can walk on with a paddle, a ball, and a portable net).
This is not a "top 10" list. It is a working map of every open venue we have verified, organised by what you're actually trying to do — play for free, play indoors, play in a real club, or play near home.
The short answer for each type of player
- You just bought a paddle and want to play tonight, for free. Go to Austin High Tennis Center (on Lady Bird Lake, two dedicated outdoor courts) or Joslin Park (78745, four dedicated outdoor courts, lit until 10 pm). Both are PARD-managed and don't require booking.
- You want air conditioning. Eight of Austin's nine PARD recreation centers run drop-in indoor pickleball — Austin Rec Center, South Austin Rec Center, Dittmar, Northwest, Pan American, Parque Zaragoza, Montopolis, Gus Garcia, and George Morales Dove Springs. Check each rec center's posted indoor schedule — slots vary by location and rotate around basketball and other programming.
- You want a club and don't mind a membership. The Picklr Austin West (78726, Four Points) and The Picklr Austin Oak Hill (78735) are full-time indoor clubs with leagues and DUPR play. Eastside Paddle Club (Springdale, 78702) layers pickleball into a padel-and-paddle social club model. Castle Court Austin is a private outdoor option in Steiner Ranch.
- You want to play with a beer in hand. Bouldin Acres (three locations: South Lamar, Menchaca, and Braker Lane), Pickle Hub on Menchaca, or PopStroke Austin out by Tech Ridge. All four mix reservable courts with full kitchens or bars.
Free public courts: the spine of Austin pickleball <a id="free"></a>
Austin's Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) is the largest single supplier of pickleball in the city. 32 of our 44 listings are free public locations. These split into three categories:
Dedicated outdoor pickleball — striped, with permanent nets
These are the courts most resemblant of a "real" pickleball court — purpose-marked or tennis-converted with permanent pickleball-height nets in place.
- Austin High Tennis Center (2001 W Cesar Chavez St, 78703) — at the foot of Old Enfield / Clarksville on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake. Two dedicated lit outdoor pickleball courts.
- Joslin Park (2111 Cimarron Trail, 78745) — Cherry Creek neighborhood in south Austin. Four dedicated outdoor courts, lit. One of the most heavily-used free locations in the city.
- Mary Moore Searight Metro Park (907 W Slaughter Ln, 78748) — large district park in far south Austin with dedicated outdoor pickleball.
- Hancock Recreation Center (811 E 41st St, 78751) — Hancock neighborhood; dedicated outdoor courts adjacent to the rec center.
Tennis-striped multi-use courts — bring a portable net
These are tennis courts with pickleball striping. The net is yours to bring (PARD does not store loaner nets at most multi-use locations). The advantage: usually empty, and you can stake out a court without waiting in a queue.
- Balcones District Park (12017 Amherst Dr, 78759) — Great Hills, near the Arboretum. One multi-purpose outdoor court striped for pickleball.
- Beverly S. Sheffield Northwest District Park (7000 Ardath St, 78757) — Crestview / Allandale. Two multi-purpose outdoor courts striped for four pickleball courts.
- Brentwood Neighborhood Park (6710 Arroyo Seco, 78757) — heart of the Brentwood neighborhood.

- Springwoods Neighborhood Park (9117 Anderson Mill Rd, 78729) — Anderson Mill / far NW.
Indoor rec-center open play — air conditioning, but check the schedule
Each PARD rec center sets its own indoor pickleball schedule and rotates around basketball, dance, and other gym programming. Drop in only on the days/times posted by the center; outside those hours the gym is reservation-only. Always confirm the current week on the rec center's PARD page before you go — schedules shift seasonally.
- Austin Recreation Center (1301 Shoal Creek Blvd, 78701) — Downtown, two blocks west of the Capitol grounds. Three indoor courts on rotation.
- South Austin Recreation Center (1100 Cumberland Rd, 78704) — Bouldin Creek; shares its campus with South Austin Neighborhood Park.
- Dittmar Recreation Center (1009 W Dittmar Rd, 78745) — 78745 South Austin.

Two additional outdoor-only rec centers offer pickleball without the indoor gym option: Alamo Recreation Center (2100 Alamo St, 78722, Cherrywood) and Dottie Jordan Recreation Center (2803 Loyola Ln, 78723, Mueller / Windsor Park line), plus Givens Recreation Center (3811 E 12th, 78721, Rosewood / MLK).

How this guide was built (and what to do when something is wrong)
Every venue above is on our Austin city page as a per-court listing with full address, phone, hours, surface, and access cost — each first-party confirmed against the venue's own website or, for PARD facilities, the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department. 41 of these 44 listings carry the green "verified" stamp as of today; the remaining 3 are flagged "needs verification" while we re-confirm a specific field. We do not pretend that any of this is permanent — courts get re-striped, rec center schedules rotate, restaurants close. If something here is wrong when you arrive, please tell us and we will re-verify within 48 hours.
We did not build this guide from a Maps scrape or a competitor directory. It was assembled from data/courts.json on the date stamped at the top of this page, with every venue cross-checked against the source we have for it. The Court Scout takes no advertising for the rankings on this page — see our About page for the full integrity policy.
Sources used to assemble this guide (representative):
- City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department — facility pages for every PARD park and recreation center listed.
- Each private venue's own website (The Picklr, Bouldin Acres, Austin Pickle Ranch, PopStroke Austin, Pickle Hub, Eastside Paddle Club, Castle Court Austin, Urban Pickleball Club).
- Google Places API ratings (where shown elsewhere on the site) under the 90-day freshness window described in our Privacy Policy.

Engineer handoff (this file is a markdown draft — not yet a built page)
This guide is ready to publish but the build pipeline does not yet have a /guide/ template for city pages. There are two cheap ways to ship it:
- Minimal: dedicated
/city/guide/template. Add acityGuide(sport, city)function inbuild.jsthat emits this content at/{sport}/{country}/{state}/{city}/guide/. The page should canonicalise to itself, link prominently back to the city index page, and the city index page should link forward to it. Reuse the existingheader(),footer(),gtmHead(), andproseCSS so the look matches About / Methodology. - Cheaper: render this markdown straight into the existing city template as a long-form
<section class="prose">block below the listings grid, only for cities that have a guide. That avoids a new URL and concentrates link equity on the city page.
I lean toward option 1 because the guide deserves its own indexable URL (it targets queries the city page can't: "where to play pickleball in austin", "austin pickleball neighborhoods", "best free pickleball austin"). But option 2 is fine if Engineer prefers to keep templates small.
Per PRINCIPLES §3 (no thin/scaled content), do not auto-spawn guide pages for every city. This Austin guide is the pilot; expansion happens one city at a time and only for metros with ≥20 verified venues so the guide can be ground-truth specific.
