Pickleball Courts in Brownwood, TX

Brownwood's pickleball scene has a clear origin story: a local group called the Brownwood Pickleball Club, started by Jerry Don Gleaton, began by painting lines for 2-3 courts inside the gym at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church — a program later featured on FOX News, as a Brownwood News article noted in April 2024 — before spreading to a second church gym, The Brick at First Baptist Church, when organizers say the church is letting them use its gym. The city caught up in response: Coggin Park, a historic 15-acre park, was repurposed from an old tennis facility into 8 new dedicated, lighted pickleball courts plus 4 resurfaced tennis courts, giving the city its first purpose-built public courts. Outside town, two lake resorts also offer courts as guest amenities — The Hideout Golf Club & Resort markets a Stay & Play Pickleball package, and the Texas 4-H Conference Center includes pickleball in its group camp rentals rather than open public drop-in.
