Where to Play Pickleball in Houston, Texas (2026)

A neighborhood-by-neighborhood guide to all 41 open pickleball venues in Houston — from Elite Pickleball's 24-court Heights flagship and Casa Pickle's Galleria monster to Fonde Recreation Center's eight free courts downtown and Houston's growing padel scene.

Where to Play Pickleball in Houston, Texas (2026)

Last reviewed 29 May 2026 against every venue's primary source. We list 41 open pickleball venues across Houston proper, totaling 190+ courts at venues that publish a count — the most in Texas after San Antonio's Pickleplex metro.

Houston's pickleball scene is big, sprawling, and genuinely tiered in a way that rewards knowing the neighborhoods. The Heights / Inner Loop has the highest concentration of dedicated clubs, including Elite Pickleball at 610 W. 6th Street — 24 courts in a single converted warehouse, the largest single-site indoor club in Texas and one of the largest in the South. Ten minutes away, Casa Pickle's Galleria location runs 26 courts at the edge of the 610 loop. Drive 20 minutes southeast and Elite Clear Lake adds another 14 courts near NASA.

That's 64 courts at three venues before you've left the Beltway.

The free public side is strong but fragmented — Houston Parks & Recreation operates dozens of courts, but most are striped lines on tennis courts, typically two courts per park. The standout exception is Fonde Recreation Center near Downtown: eight dedicated courts in a municipal multi-sport facility, free for all ages and one of the best-organized open-play programs in Houston. The second-best city-run site is North Wayside Sports & Recreation Center (three courts, 77028), with free open play most mornings.

This guide is not a "top 10" ranking. It is a working map of every open venue we have confirmed, organized by what you are actually looking for.

The short answer for each type of player

You want the best dedicated indoor club: Go to Elite Pickleball — The Heights (24 courts, 610 W. 6th Street, 77007). The largest single-site indoor pickleball club in Texas, with organized leagues, open play, clinics, and reservable courts. Membership or drop-in. If the Heights is full or you're on the south/southeast side, Elite Clear Lake (14 courts) has the same quality. If you prefer a more party-venue vibe, Casa Pickle — Galleria (26 courts, 77063) is the alternative.

You want free public courts: Start with Fonde Recreation Center (8 courts, 110 Sabine St., 77007) — free, near downtown, reliably open. For the neighborhoods, Cleveland Park (2 courts, 77007), Jaycee Park (2 courts, 77008), and Halbert Park (2 courts, 77008) cluster in the Heights/Montrose area and are good for early-morning pickup. Most Houston parks have two striped courts; courts elsewhere in the city involve longer drives between parks.

You want a drink with your game: PKL Social (4 courts, 1112 Shepherd Dr., 77007) is the Heights' bar-and-pickle venue — think Chicken N Pickle without the food hall scale. Pickle & Wings (4 courts, 6205 S Sam Houston Pkwy E, 77048) is the southwest equivalent.

You want a private club: The Briar Club (9 courts, Timmons Lane, 77027) is the most established private club in inner Houston — historically tennis-first but now converted to pickleball-majority. Northgate Country Club (4 courts, 77068) serves the Champions/Spring corridor to the north.

You want padel too: Houston has the strongest padel cluster in Texas. Cube Padel (5 courts, 77080), Houston Padel Indoor (5 courts, 77092), TEMPO Padel & Pickleball Club (4 courts, 77043), and iPadel Houston (2 courts) all operate within the city. See the padel section below.

Free public courts

Dedicated park courts (confirmed open play)

Fonde Recreation Center (110 Sabine St., Houston, TX 77007) is the best free public option in Houston — 8 outdoor lighted pickleball courts on a City of Houston Parks facility footprint that also includes tennis, a pool, and a gym. Free and open to all. Located on the Buffalo Bayou corridor just west of Downtown, easy to reach from the Heights, Montrose, and Midtown. Open play runs most weekday mornings and evenings; check the CoH Parks calendar for organized open-play times.

Judson Robinson Jr. Community Center (2020 Hermann Dr., Houston, TX 77004) sits in the Museum District / Med Center buffer. Two courts. Free. This is the most central free court option in Houston — it's a City of Houston facility inside Hermann Park adjacent.

The Heights neighborhood has the best cluster of free courts in a walkable area:

  • Halbert Park (200 East 23rd St., 77008) — 2 courts, near the 610/Heights Blvd intersection
  • Jaycee Park (1300 Seamist Dr., 77008) — 2 courts, White Oak Bayou corridor
  • Cleveland Park (4100 Memorial Dr., 77007) — 2 courts, Memorial Dr. and the bayou trail network

North Wayside Sports & Recreation Center (9551 N Wayside Dr., 77028) operates 3 courts on the northeast side — one of the larger publicly-managed free sites outside the Heights.

Tidwell Community Center (9720 Spaulding St., 77016) serves the Tidwell / Acres Homes corridor with 3 free courts. Good option for North and Northeast Houston players.

West Gray Metropolitan Multi-Service Center (1475 W Gray St., 77019) sits squarely in Montrose — 2 courts. City of Houston facility, free.

Indoor paid and membership clubs

The big three

Elite Pickleball Club — The Heights is the first call for any serious player in Houston. 24 courts across two addresses at 610 and 650 W. 6th Street (77007) in the Heights — all indoor, climate-controlled, with permanent nets and competitive-grade surfaces. Membership and drop-in both available. Organized leagues run six days a week. The Heights location is the reference standard for dedicated indoor pickleball in Texas. Confirmed on the official Elite Pickleball website, verified first-party. → Elite Pickleball The Heights

Casa Pickle — Galleria runs 26 courts at 8725 Meadowcroft Dr (77063), immediately east of the 610 loop near the Galleria mall. The largest court count at any single Houston venue. Casa Pickle bills itself as a "social pickleball club" — rooftop courts, food, full bar, pop-up events, reservations. Drop-in pricing and memberships. Strong millennial-demographic scene. Two locations in Houston: Galleria is the flagship; Casa Pickle — Space City (13401 Gulf Fwy, 77034) adds 17 more courts on the south side near Hobby airport. → Casa Pickle Galleria

Elite Pickleball Club — Clear Lake replicates the Heights model at 2323 Clear Lake City Blvd. Suite 200A (77062), 14 courts, serving the NASA / Clear Lake / Pearland corridor. Same league structure, same court quality. The go-to for players in Clear Lake, Pearland, Friendswood, and League City. Verified on the Elite Pickleball official site. → Elite Pickleball Clear Lake

Clubs and bar-and-pickle

Houston Pickleball Center (12233 Robin Blvd, 77045) runs 11 dedicated indoor courts in a converted warehouse in southwest Houston near the Beltway at South Main / 610 South. The primary alternative for SW Houston players who find the Heights or Galleria too far. Verified on the official site with confirmed court count. → Houston Pickleball Center

PKL Social (1112 Shepherd Dr., 77007) occupies the bar-and-pickle niche in the Heights: 4 courts, food and drinks, walk-up friendly. Good for after-work sessions when Elite Pickleball leagues are running. Verified. → PKL Social

Pickleball Social — Memorial City (1055 Conrad Sauer Dr., 77043) adds 13 courts on the west side, in the Memorial City / Energy Corridor quadrant. Confirmed open; details still being verified first-party. → Pickleball Social Memorial City

Pickle Mania (411 Smith St, 77002) operates 7 courts in Downtown proper — a rarity in a city where almost all clubs are in the Inner Loop or further out. Confirmed open; details pending first-party verification. → Pickle Mania

Pickle & Wings (6205 S Sam Houston Pkwy E, 77048) is the bar-and-pickle option for SW Houston players, off Sam Houston Tollway near Beltway 8. 4 courts; food and drink focused. Confirmed open; details being verified. → Pickle & Wings

Private and membership clubs

The Briar Club (2603 Timmons Ln, 77027) is Houston's most storied private racket club, in the heart of River Oaks / Upper Kirby. 9 dedicated pickleball courts added to an existing tennis and fitness campus. Members only. Confirmed open; details pending first-party. → The Briar Club

Life Time Galleria (5100 West Alabama, 77056) is the premium health-club option near the Galleria: pickleball courts as part of a full Life Time fitness membership. 4 courts. Membership required. Confirmed open; details being confirmed. → Life Time Galleria

Northgate Country Club (17110 Northgate Forest Dr., 77068) serves the Spring/Champions/Tomball corridor with 4 courts on a traditional country club campus. Members only. → Northgate Country Club

Bay Area Park (7500 Bay Area Blvd, 77058) in the Clear Lake / NASA corridor has 8 free courts, making it the largest free option for southeast Houston players — more accessible than the Elite Clear Lake paid club. → Bay Area Park

Kendall Community Center (609 N. Eldridge Pkwy, 77079) is on our research list for the Energy Corridor / Westside; court details still being confirmed. → Kendall Community Center

Padel in Houston

Houston has the strongest padel cluster in Texas — four dedicated indoor padel venues operating within the city limits, plus TEMPO which runs both padel and pickleball.

Cube Padel Houston (7918 Breen Rd, 77080) — 5 padel courts, northwest Houston near Beltway 8 / Antoine Drive corridor.

Houston Padel Indoor (11850 Hempstead Rd, 77092) — 5 courts, northwest Houston near Hempstead Rd / US-290 corridor.

TEMPO Padel & Pickleball Club (1729 Brittmoore Rd, 77043) — a hybrid club with both padel and pickleball courts (4 courts each), near the Energy Corridor / Westheimer corridor. One of the rare multi-sport clubs in the US.

Houston by neighborhood

Inner Loop / Heights (77007, 77008, 77009)

The highest concentration of courts in Houston. The Heights itself has Elite Pickleball (24 courts, paid), PKL Social (4 courts, paid), West Gray Rec Center (2 courts, free), Cleveland Park, Halbert Park, Jaycee Park, Moody Park, Proctor Plaza, and Montie Beach Park. Fonde Recreation Center is just southeast of the Heights proper in the Near Midtown/Buffalo Bayou corridor.

This is where most competitive organized play happens. For beginners, the free parks cluster here more densely than anywhere else in Houston.

Downtown / Midtown (77002, 77004, 77005)

Pickle Mania (7 courts, 77002) is the only dedicated club in Downtown proper. Judson Robinson Jr. Community Center (77004) is the closest free option near the Med Center and Museum District. Fleming Park (77005) covers the Rice / Med Center boundary.

Galleria / Westheimer / Briargrove (77056, 77063)

Casa Pickle Galleria (26 courts) is the dominant option. Life Time Galleria (4 courts, membership) is the secondary choice. Briarmeadow Park (2 courts, free) and River Oaks Park (2 courts, free) round out the free inventory.

Energy Corridor / Memorial City (77043, 77079)

Pickleball Social Memorial City (13 courts) and TEMPO Padel & Pickleball (4 pickleball + padel) serve the west side along I-10 and Memorial Drive. Kendall Community Center (free) is being confirmed for the Westside/Energy Corridor.

SW Houston / Beltway (77045, 77048, 77085)

Houston Pickleball Center (11 courts) is the anchor. Pickle & Wings (4 courts, bar-and-pickle) covers the entertainment side. Windsor Village Park (free) and Willow Park (free) serve residential areas.

Clear Lake / Bay Area / NASA (77058, 77062)

Elite Clear Lake (14 courts, paid) plus Bay Area Park (8 courts, free) — the deepest paired paid/free inventory in any Houston submarket. Best for players in Pearland, Friendswood, League City, and NASA-corridor communities.

NW Houston / Hempstead corridor (77080, 77092)

Cube Padel (5 courts), Houston Padel Indoor (5 courts). This quadrant lacks a large pickleball-only club but has the padel depth. Lincoln Park (free, 77088) and Cora & R.L. Johnson Park (free, 77041) are the free-court options here.

North / NE Houston (77016, 77028, 77068, 77091)

North Wayside Sports & Recreation Center (3 courts, free, 77028) and Tidwell Community Center (3 courts, free, 77016) are the public anchors. Northgate Country Club (4 courts, members) serves Champions/Spring. For free play in Acres Homes and adjacent neighborhoods, Highland Park (77091) and Hobart Taylor Park (77028) have courts with no-fee access.

What to know before you drive over

Houston is big. This is obvious but worth stating: a 20-mile cross-city drive during rush hour takes 45–60 minutes. Plan your court by neighborhood, not by "Houston" as a single market.

The Heights indoor cluster is the reliable default for organized play. Elite Pickleball (24 courts) and PKL Social (4 courts) on Shepherd Drive are within a mile of each other, both open evenings and weekends, and absorb a lot of organized league demand. If you want reliable reservable court time near central Houston, this is the place.

Free parks have two courts each, and most are striped lines. Houston does not have a McAllister Park equivalent — a single large dedicated public complex. The free inventory is distributed across 25+ parks, mostly two courts each. Fonde Recreation Center and Bay Area Park are the outliers with more than two courts.

Summer is brutal. June through September outdoor courts are best played before 8am or after 8pm. Shade at outdoor parks is sparse. The indoor club scene (Elite, Casa Pickle, Houston Pickleball Center) is the practical answer from June through September — and Houston's indoor-court density makes this realistic.

The verification gap. As of May 2026, about 15 of Houston's 41 venues are still pending first-party confirmation of hours, pricing, or court count. Where we list a venue as "not yet confirmed," the venue's open status and address are confirmed — the detailed logistics (drop-in rates, exact operating hours) may differ from what public sources suggest. Call ahead or check the venue's own website before driving.

How this guide was built

Every venue on this page was researched against its primary source — the operator's official website, their Google Business Profile, or the City of Houston Parks & Recreation Department's official parks directory. We never use third-party aggregator sites as our source; they frequently list stale court counts and wrong hours.

Court count claims come only from the venue itself. Where a venue does not publish a court count, we mark it as such rather than guessing.

Google ratings shown on the Houston best-clubs page are fetched from the official Google Places API within a 90-day freshness window. We do not publish stale ratings or use them in our editorial rankings.
