Where to Play Pickleball in Long Beach, California (2026)
Last reviewed 16 July 2026 against each venue's primary source. We list 13 open pickleball venues in Long Beach, 11 of them confirmed against a primary source (city page, venue site, or reputable local news) and 2 still marked needs-verification.
Long Beach's pickleball scene is a city-parks story more than a private-club story. Unlike LA-adjacent cities where the map is dominated by a handful of paid indoor operators, Long Beach's Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine has spent the past few years striping and building pickleball into its neighborhood park network almost everywhere — from beachfront courts a block off Ocean Boulevard to shared tennis courts in Bixby Knolls. Layered on top of that free network are two city-run tennis centers, El Dorado Tennis Center and Billie Jean King Tennis Center at Recreation Park, that offer paid, reservable, lighted dedicated pickleball courts for players who want a more structured experience.
This guide covers all 13 verified-open venues, organized by where they sit in the city, plus an honest look at the two records we can't fully stand behind yet.
The short answer for each type of player
- You want free courts, first-come first-served, any day. DeForest Park in North Long Beach has 8 dedicated pickleball courts, dawn to dusk, no reservation. Veterans Park downtown has 12 total (a mix of dedicated and dual-striped courts).
- You want a beachfront game. Bayshore Park and Junipero Beach put you within a block of Ocean Boulevard and the sand in Belmont Shore — both free, both first-come first-served, both small (2–3 courts), so expect a wait on weekends.
- You want lighted, reservable, dedicated courts for night play. El Dorado Tennis Center has 8 lighted outdoor pickleball courts you can book by the hour, open until 9:30 PM on weeknights.
- You want a club-style setup with programming. Billie Jean King Tennis Center at Recreation Park runs a structured weekday/weekend schedule with blended-line conversion that expands from 4 courts to 8 on Friday nights and weekends.
- You want free indoor courts if the marine layer or rain kills your outdoor plans. Sports Basement's Flight Deck is the only indoor option on this list — but it's one of our two needs-verification records, so call ahead before you drive out.
Central Long Beach: Veterans Park and Bixby Park
The two central-city entries sit closest to downtown and the Cal Heights/Wrigley/Alamitos Beach neighborhoods.
- Veterans Park — 101 E 28th St, 90806. The largest free venue in the city by court count: 12 total pickleball courts (a mix of dedicated courts and dual-striped tennis courts, confirmed against the city's own pickleball program page). Free, first-come first-served, park hours.
- Bixby Park — 130 Cherry Ave, 90802. Pickleball lines painted on an existing park court near Alamitos Beach. This one is needs-verification — its existence is confirmed via the city's pickleball page, but we haven't independently confirmed court count, hours, or whether nets are provided. See the needs-verification section below before making a special trip.
Belmont Shore / East Beach corridor
This is the closest thing Long Beach has to a "walk from the beach to the court" cluster — four venues within about a mile of each other along or just off Ocean Boulevard, spanning the 90803/90804/90814 beach-adjacent zips.
- Bayshore Park — 5415 E Ocean Blvd, 90803. 3 total courts (1 dedicated pickleball court plus 2 dual-striped tennis courts), free, dawn to dusk, first-come first-served. Steps from the beach path.
- Junipero Beach Pickleball Courts — 2100 E Ocean Blvd, 90803. 2 courts, repurposed from an existing basketball court. Free, dawn to dusk, first-come first-served. The smallest venue on this list — arrive early on weekends.
- Marina Vista Park — Colorado St & Santiago Ave, 90814 (Belmont Heights, near the Marina). 8 total courts per the city's pickleball page (4 dedicated plus 4 dual-striped on tennis courts). Free, dawn to dusk, first-come first-served.
- Billie Jean King Tennis Center at Recreation Park — 1040 Park Ave, 90804. The only paid, club-run venue in this cluster. Managed by BTG Tennis under a City of Long Beach lease, it runs 4 pickleball courts on weekday daytimes and converts to 8 courts via blended-line striping on Friday nights and weekends. Hours: Mon–Fri 11 AM–4 PM, Tue/Thu/Fri 6:30–9:30 PM, Sat–Sun 7 AM–8 PM. Pricing is time-of-day tiered — weekday daytime and Friday-night court rentals run $10/court/hour, Tuesday/Thursday-night and weekend-morning slots run $15/court/hour, weekend afternoons drop back to $10/court/hour. Google rates it 4.6 stars from 116 reviews. Contact: (562) 438-8509, lbctennis.com/pickleball.
El Dorado corridor: three venues, one address, one nearby cluster
The El Dorado Park area in East Long Beach (90815, near CSULB and the 605/Studebaker corridor) is the densest concentration of pickleball infrastructure in the city — three separate venues, two of them sharing the same street address but run completely differently.
- El Dorado Tennis Center — 2800 N Studebaker Rd, 90815. The city's flagship paid pickleball venue: 8 lighted outdoor courts, hard-court surface, portable nets. Hours: Mon–Thu 7 AM–9:30 PM, Fri–Sun 7 AM–8 PM. Court reservations run $10/hour non-prime (weekdays 7 AM–4 PM) and $15/hour prime (weekday evenings and all day weekends); the center may also run drop-in sessions, but pricing and schedule for drop-in specifically aren't confirmed from the official page — call (562) 425-0553 to check before assuming a walk-on rate. Google rates it 4.6 stars from 156 reviews. Site: longbeach.gov/park/park-and-facilities/directory/el-dorado-tennis-center/.
- El Dorado Park West Pickleball Courts — same address, 2800 N Studebaker Rd, 90815, but a separate, free, first-come first-served venue: 3 outdoor courts on a shared sports court inside the park, distinct from the paid tennis center. Don't confuse the two when you show up — the free courts and the paid tennis center sit on the same property but are managed and accessed differently.
- Whaley Park — 5620 Atherton St, 90815, about a mile west of El Dorado Park. A dual-striped tennis/pickleball court shared with volleyball use; free, dawn to dusk, first-come first-served. The city hasn't published an exact court count for this site, so treat it as a small, casual option rather than a primary destination.
- Sports Basement — the Flight Deck — 2100 N Bellflower Blvd, 90815. The only indoor option in this corridor (and the only indoor venue on this list at all), but it's needs-verification — see the dedicated section below before you drive out expecting it.
North Long Beach: DeForest Park and Somerset Park
- DeForest Park — 6255 DeForest Ave, 90805. 8 dedicated pickleball courts, free, dawn to dusk, first-come first-served, no reservations. Long Beach Post covered this build as among the city's first dedicated (not shared-line) public pickleball courts, and the city's own park page confirms the same court count and hours.
- Somerset Park — 1500 E Carson Blvd, 90807 (Bixby Knolls). 8 dual-striped pickleball lines painted across 2 tennis courts — bring your own portable net if you're the first group out. Free, dawn to dusk, first-come first-served.
West Long Beach: Silverado Park
- Silverado Park — 1545 W 31st St, 90810, in West Long Beach near the port and the Wilmington border. 4 dedicated courts, free, dawn to dusk, first-come first-served. Call (562) 570-1675 for park office info if you need it confirmed before driving out — it's the only free park venue on this list with a listed phone number.
Needs-verification: two records to double-check before you go
We'd rather flag these honestly than pretend they're fully confirmed:
- Bixby Park (130 Cherry Ave, 90802) — existence is confirmed via the City of Long Beach's own pickleball program page, but we have not independently confirmed court count, hours, net type, or whether the courts are dedicated or dual-striped. Treat this as "pickleball is played here" rather than a fully specified venue until we can verify further.
- Sports Basement — the Flight Deck (2100 N Bellflower Blvd, 90815) — a retailer-run free community space on the third floor of the Sports Basement store, with 5 open-play courts. Free with a signed activity waiver; paddle rental available separately from $15/day. Hours: Mon–Fri 10:30 AM–7:30 PM, Sat–Sun 9:30 AM–6:30 PM, first-come first-served, subject to closure for store events. This is sourced from a CSULB student-newspaper article (Long Beach Current) and Visit Long Beach's official tourism blog rather than Sports Basement's own site directly — the retailer's site sells pickleball gear but its own Flight Deck page didn't have quotable static text at time of research. Worth calling ahead given the event-closure caveat.
Neither of these is disqualifying — needs-verification simply means we haven't yet confirmed a key fact against a primary source. Both are worth a call before a special trip.
A note on court-count discrepancies
A few of the free park venues (Marina Vista Park in particular) have city-published court counts that describe a mix of "dedicated" and "dual-striped" courts, and the exact split has shifted slightly between the city's pickleball program page and individual park pages as Long Beach keeps adding pickleball lines to existing tennis courts. Where we found a discrepancy we used the most recently confirmed number from the city's dedicated pickleball page (longbeach.gov/park/recreation-programs/sports-and-athletics/pickleball/). If you're planning around an exact court count for a group, a quick call to the relevant park is the safest move — Long Beach's parks department is actively expanding this network, and numbers move.

Build note: Long Beach currently has 13 open pickleball records (11 verified, 2 needs-verification). This is below the ≥3-clubs-with-fetched-Google-ratings bar needed for a merit-based "Best pickleball in Long Beach" ranked page under PRINCIPLES — only 2 records (El Dorado Tennis Center, Billie Jean King Tennis Center) carry a Google rating. No canonical_best_page is set in this guide's front matter; don't build one until Verifier fetches ratings for more of the free-park venues (most won't have meaningful review volume as unstaffed park courts, so this may never clear the bar — that's fine, the free-park network is the actual story here, not a ranking).
Data flag for Verifier: several free park records (bayshore-park-pickleball-courts, junipero-beach-pickleball-courts, marina-vista-park-pickleball-courts, silverado-park-pickleball-courts, somerset-park-pickleball-courts) carry access: "paid" at the top level despite cost: "Free" and notes explicitly stating "Free, first come first served" — this guide followed the cost/notes fields (all free, city-park, first-come first-served) rather than the top-level access value, which looks like a stale default from when these were auto-added leads. Worth a pass to correct access on these five records.
