Where to Play Pickleball in Tacoma, Washington (2026)
Last reviewed 16 July 2026 against every venue's primary source. We list 14 pickleball venues in Tacoma, Washington that are open or confirmed coming soon — 9 verified against a primary source, 5 still needs-verification. Of the 9 verified venues, exact court count is published for only 4 (25 courts combined: The Drop's 8, The Picklr's planned 9, Stewart Heights Park's 4, Browns Point Playfield's 4); the other 5 confirm pickleball is offered but don't publish a court count anywhere we could find.
Tacoma's pickleball scene doesn't look like Bellevue's or Spokane's, and the difference is worth naming up front. Bellevue's official parks page lists an exact court count for every one of its eleven outdoor locations. Spokane has a couple of huge municipal anchors that dominate the picture. Tacoma has neither pattern. It has one dedicated indoor club (The Drop Pickleball Club, the city's first), one national franchise about to open (The Picklr Tacoma), and a Metro Parks Tacoma system that has clearly rolled pickleball out to a dozen sites around the city — without publishing a consistent, complete court count for most of them. That's a genuine texture difference in how the two park systems document what they've built, and this guide reflects it honestly rather than inventing numbers to fill the gap.
At the top of the market, The Drop Pickleball Club (2360 S Fawcett Ave, just south of downtown) is Tacoma's first purpose-built indoor facility: 7 indoor courts plus 1 outdoor, a pro shop, showers, and open play by skill level, paid at $12 drop-in with membership options. A few miles north, The Picklr Tacoma (2401 N Pearl St) is a 43,000-square-foot, 9-court franchise location confirmed but not yet open — the opening date is still TBD per its own site, so it's flagged coming-soon here rather than folded into the "open now" count.
Below those two, Tacoma pickleball runs mostly through Metro Parks Tacoma, split into two programs. Three rec centers — Eastside Community Center, Center at Norpoint, People's Community Center — run scheduled indoor drop-in under a program branded Grit City Gherkins Pickleball Club (a nod to Tacoma's own "Grit City" nickname): $10/person for non-members, free for members. Separately, Metro Parks neighborhood parks carry free, walk-on outdoor courts — Stewart Heights Park and Browns Point Playfield each publish a confirmed 4 courts; Vassault Park and Jefferson Park confirm pickleball without a published count.
Five more listings remain needs-verification, each a genuinely different gap: a park (Point Defiance) whose current official page doesn't mention pickleball despite a 2022 article on restriping plans; a regional Pierce County facility (Sprinker Recreation Center) mailing-address-Tacoma but physically in Spanaway; a rec center (STAR Center) split between free outdoor and members-only indoor; a YMCA branch with a program but no published address or court count; and a Boys & Girls Clubs branch with a specific 2-court number that hasn't cleared our second verification pass. Each is covered on its own terms below.
This is not a rankings list — a map of every open or confirmed-coming venue in Tacoma, organized by what you're actually trying to do.
The short answer for each type of player
- Dedicated indoor club, today. The Drop Pickleball Club (2360 S Fawcett Ave) — 8 courts (7 indoor, 1 outdoor), Mon–Fri 8am–8pm, Sat–Sun 9am–5pm, $12 drop-in.
- Planning ahead for a new franchise. The Picklr Tacoma (2401 N Pearl St) — 9 courts, planned daily 6am–11pm, not open yet, no published opening date. Check thepicklr.com/location/tacoma/ before you go.
- Free outdoor, exact count confirmed. Stewart Heights Park (Eastside) and Browns Point Playfield (Northeast Tacoma) both have 4 courts, free, dawn to dusk.
- Free outdoor, count unpublished. Vassault Park and Jefferson Park (both North End) confirm pickleball on their official Metro Parks pages, no specific court count.
- Cheap scheduled indoor drop-in through the city. Three Metro Parks Tacoma rec centers, $10/person (free for Grit City Gherkins members): Eastside Community Center (Mon & Fri 8am–12pm), Center at Norpoint (Mon & Wed 4–8pm, Sat 8am–12pm), People's Community Center (Tue–Thu 9am–12pm).
- South Tacoma, free or members. STAR Center has free public outdoor courts plus a members-only indoor half; Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound next door reports 2 indoor courts (needs-verification).
The flagship: The Drop Pickleball Club
The Drop Pickleball Club (2360 S Fawcett Ave, Tacoma, WA 98402) is, per its own site and local coverage from South Sound Business, Tacoma's first dedicated indoor pickleball facility — 7 indoor courts and 1 outdoor court, 8 total, plus a pro shop, showers, open play by skill level, and private court rentals. Open Mon–Fri 8:00am–8:00pm and Sat–Sun 9:00am–5:00pm; drop-in is $12, with membership options available (no fixed rate card published — call 253-331-3194 for specifics).
The Fawcett Avenue address sits just south of downtown Tacoma, a short drive from the Tacoma Dome and the Stadium District. It's the venue here closest to a "dedicated pickleball business" model, the same category Bellevue Pickleball Club and Spokane's The Press occupy in their cities, and right now the only one of that kind fully open in Tacoma.

Coming soon: The Picklr Tacoma
The Picklr Tacoma (2401 N Pearl St, Tacoma, WA 98406) is a national franchise location confirmed but not yet open, per the franchise's own location page — 9 courts across a 43,000-square-foot building, planned daily hours 6:00am–11:00pm. Access will require a membership; pricing is listed as "TBD." No phone is published yet; reach the franchise team by email at [email protected].
It's listed here clearly marked coming-soon, not folded into the open count, because it's confirmed and real. Don't treat the planned hours or court count as final until the site shows an actual opening date.

Grit City Gherkins: paid drop-in at three Metro Parks Tacoma rec centers
Metro Parks Tacoma runs scheduled indoor pickleball drop-in at three rec centers under a program branded Grit City Gherkins Pickleball Club, per the official parkstacoma.gov drop-in-pickleball page: $10/person for non-members, free for members. None of the three publish a specific indoor court count — the official pages describe hours and cost, not gym capacity — so all three sit in the "count not published" bucket even though the program itself is clearly confirmed.
- Eastside Community Center (1721 E 56th St, 98404) — drop-in Mon & Fri 8:00am–12:00pm. Phone (253) 305-1000.
- Center at Norpoint (4818 Nassau Ave NE, 98422) — drop-in Mon & Wed 4:00–8:00pm (half gym 4–5pm, full gym 5–8pm) and Sat 8:00am–12:00pm, the most generous window of the three.
- People's Community Center (1602 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, 98405) — drop-in Tue, Wed, Thu 9:00am–12:00pm, in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood.
Calling Metro Parks Tacoma (253-305-1000) and asking for a center by name is the most reliable way to check real-time availability — the schedule page doesn't show occupancy.
Free outdoor courts — the Metro Parks Tacoma neighborhood-park network
Outside the rec centers, Metro Parks Tacoma also runs free, walk-on outdoor pickleball at neighborhood parks — no reservation, dawn to dusk. Two of the four confirm an exact court count; two confirm pickleball without a published count.
- Stewart Heights Park (5715 Reginald Gutierrez Ln, 98404, Eastside Tacoma) — 4 outdoor courts with permanent nets, per parkstacoma.gov. Note for anyone using an older address: the street was renamed to honor Reginald Gutierrez; the park hasn't moved, only the address on record was corrected.
- Browns Point Playfield (4915 La Hal Da Lane NE, 98422, Northeast Tacoma) — 4 newly striped courts, per an official Metro Parks Tacoma article, with free portable nets stored in a courtside locker rather than fixed posts.
- Vassault Park (6100 N 37th St, 98407, North End) — pickleball confirmed as a park amenity on the official facility page; court count not listed.
- Jefferson Park (801 N Mason Ave, 98406, North End, near The Picklr's future location) — same pattern: pickleball confirmed, court count not published.
Metro Parks Tacoma's general line, (253) 305-1000, is the number to call for any of these four if you need a court-count answer the website doesn't give you.
Needs-verification: five Tacoma-area listings we can't fully confirm yet
Being straight about what we don't know is the point of this dataset. Five listings remain flagged needs-verification, named here with the specific gap in each case.
- Point Defiance Park Pickleball Courts (5400 N Pearl St, 98407) — genuinely unresolved. A 2022 Metro Parks Tacoma article referenced plans to restripe tennis courts for pickleball here, and third parties report 4 courts now, but the park's current official page lists tennis courts and does not mention pickleball. We can't tell whether the restriping happened, was scrapped, or the page is out of date. Call Metro Parks Tacoma (253-305-1000) if this one matters to your plans.
- Sprinker Recreation Center (521 Military Road S, also 14824 C St S, 98444) — a Pierce County regional rec center that completed an $18.7M outdoor renovation in August 2024, including tennis courts resurfaced with pickleball lines, per Pierce County's own site and Facebook page. Tacoma mailing address, physically in unincorporated Pierce County near Spanaway. Free, first-come first-served; court count isn't published.
- STAR Center (3873 S 66th St, 98409) — a two-tier setup: free public outdoor courts, plus indoor courts in the adjacent Hope/Schatz building via a Grit City Gherkins membership (drop-in Tue/Thu/Fri 6–8pm). Court count for neither half is published, which is the only reason this stays needs-verification — the program itself is clearly confirmed.
- Pearl Street Family YMCA — the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties' own location page lists "Adult Pickleball" among this branch's programs (253-564-9622, ymcapkc.org/locations/pearl-street-family-ymca), but no court count, schedule, or street address is published.
- Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound (3875 S 66th St, 98409 — essentially next door to STAR Center) — the organization's own site states 2 indoor pickleball courts at this membership-based branch, a plausible primary-source number that hasn't yet cleared our second confirmation pass.

What we didn't find, and what to double-check yourself
Tacoma doesn't yet have an all-hours, no-membership drop-in club open past evening the way Spokane's The Press or Pickleball on Broadway are (both to midnight) — The Drop closes at 8pm weekdays, 5pm weekends. Call ahead if a late-night session matters. None of the 14 Tacoma-area records in our dataset carry a Google rating in our verified pull — same as our Bellevue guide, we're not manufacturing a rating that doesn't exist; check Google Maps yourself if that matters to you.
Court counts are the recurring gap here, and it's structural, not sloppy: Metro Parks Tacoma's pages confirm that pickleball happens at a given address, reliably, but frequently don't say how many courts. That's a different publishing habit than the City of Bellevue's parks page, which lists an exact count for all eleven of its outdoor locations. Where Tacoma's own pages don't publish a number, we leave it blank rather than pulling a figure from a third-party aggregator we don't cite.
If you're coming from Lakewood, University Place, Puyallup, or elsewhere in Pierce County outside Tacoma city limits, this guide doesn't cover those — Tacoma-address records only, with the one flagged exception of Sprinker Recreation Center (Tacoma mailing address, unincorporated Pierce County location).

How this guide was built
Every venue in this guide is a per-court record in our Tacoma, WA city page, with full address, court count (where published), hours, cost, and verification status. 9 of 14 records are verified against a primary source — the venue's own site, an official Metro Parks Tacoma or Pierce County page, or a YMCA/Boys & Girls Club location page. The remaining 5 are named above with the specific gap in each case. No Google ratings are shown because none are currently in our verified pull for Tacoma.
