Where to Play Pickleball in Charlotte, North Carolina (2026)

Last reviewed 2 June 2026 against every venue's primary source. We list 19 open pickleball venues across Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. 13 of 19 are confirmed first-party — a 68% verification rate.

Charlotte is quietly one of the strongest pickleball markets in the Southeast. The landscape splits cleanly into three tiers: a four-location local chain that has cornered the paid drop-in market at $15 a session; a 21-court flagship club in SouthEnd that functions as the city's membership hub; and a Mecklenburg County park system that has invested seriously in dedicated, lighted outdoor courts.

What makes Charlotte different from comparable Sun Belt cities: Pickleball Charlotte — not a national franchise, but a Charlotte-grown, Charlotte-run operation — has built four locations across the metro (Ballantyne, Sharon Lakes, Northlake, Granite Street), and their uniform $15 non-member drop-in pricing makes accessible play possible from Steele Creek to University City. Players who want a club don't have to choose between neighborhoods; they choose the Pickleball Charlotte location closest to them and pay the same rate.

The free public scene is anchored by Clarks Creek Community Park in north Charlotte, which has 8 dedicated, LED-lit outdoor courts — the largest single free venue in the county. For players in SouthEnd or midtown, Freedom Park offers 6 lighted courts with a mix of reservable and walk-up play, steps from the greenway.

This is a full inventory guide, not a top-10 list. Every open venue is named.

What Charlotte's pickleball scene is missing (as of mid-2026)

Charlotte's pickleball market has two unusual gaps for a top-20 US metro:

  1. No Pickleball Kingdom, no Dill Dinkers, no Picklr. The national franchise chains that have saturated Dallas, Houston, and Nashville have not yet landed in Charlotte. Pickleball Charlotte fills the gap locally, but it's a single operator. If that chain faces challenges, there is no redundancy in the $15 drop-in tier.
  1. No Chicken N Pickle–style "bar-and-pickle" megavenue. Tipsy Pickle at Camp North End is the closest equivalent, but at 6 courts it operates at entertainment scale rather than club scale. A 20+ court bar venue (like Chicken N Pickle in Kansas City / Dallas) would likely generate strong demand.

Both of these are market opportunities. Charlotte's population growth trajectory and pickleball penetration rates suggest one or both will materialize before 2027.

Data integrity notes

The following venues have open data-quality questions and are listed with a "not yet confirmed" status:

  • LabCity Pickleball Club (2801 E Independence Blvd) — official website (labcityclt.com) returned SSL errors during verification; hours and current pricing not independently confirmed from an official source. Court count of 3 (vs. a 5-court figure from some secondary sources) is unresolved. Verify before visiting.
  • Life Time Athletic Charlotte Ballantyne — court count (11) not confirmed from the official Life Time location page. Call (704) 901-7115.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Park, Veterans Park, Eastway Regional Recreation Center — addresses and approximate court counts sourced from Mecklenburg County parks data; individual venue details not yet verified from primary source pages.
  • Epic Padel Charlotte — opened September 2025; canopied courts and current pricing not confirmed from official site at time of writing.
