Under the BWF Laws of Badminton a match is best of three games to 21; at 20-all the side that first leads by 2 wins, and at 29-all the 30th point wins. Club nights often play one game to 21 or 15 — choose best of 1.

How it works

Set up in a minute, run it from your phone

  1. Enter the field. Paste names in seed order, or type a number to get Player 1, Player 2 … and rename later. Up to 64 entries.
  2. Pick a format. Round robin pools give everyone the same number of matches; elimination is quicker. Pools can finish with a seeded playoff, keeping players from the same pool apart in round one.
  3. Enter results. Type each game’s score or tap the winner. Winners move on, byes fill themselves, and a changed result clears anything later that depended on it.
  4. Share it. Print the bracket for the wall, or copy a link that opens the tournament — with every score — on anyone’s phone.

Scoring rules on this page are summarised from the documents above. The tool itself accepts any score, so house rules work too.

Frequently asked questions

How is a badminton match scored?

Best of three games, each to 21 points with rally scoring. At 20-all the game continues until one side leads by 2, and at 29-all the side that scores the 30th point wins the game. That is Law 7 of the BWF Laws of Badminton.

What format should I use for a club badminton tournament?

For a day event with 8 to 16 entries per category, round-robin groups of three or four feeding a knockout give everyone several matches. For a quick event, a single-elimination draw with a best-of-three-games format is fastest; double elimination guarantees two matches each.

Can I run several events (singles, doubles, mixed)?

Run each category as its own tournament. The tool keeps one event per page in your browser, so for several categories at once use the share link to save each one, or open the page in separate browsers or devices.

How are badminton group standings ranked?

By matches won, then games won minus games lost, then points won minus points lost, then points won.

Can the tool draw random doubles pairs?

Yes — list individual players, set Doubles entries to random partners, and the pairs are drawn before seeding.
